Take Nothing for Granted

Take nothing for granted: the sheer act
of waking each day; fresh air upon your cheek;
each effort expended on self or another ---
walking the dog, shopping for food, toiling
at home     in an office     or on the road.
Every moment is rare, short and full of glory.
Every word is magic, a story achieved through

Care about parents or children as fragile gifts
like petal on a rose, like song from one bird.

This world operates on chutzpah. It has
the chutzpah to declare itself a world,
to assert that it is autonomous from
its Creator, to deny any relationship
to the very force that is continually

The true heaven is everywhere, even in that very place where
you stand and walk...If man's eyes were opened, he would
see God everywhere in this heaven, for heaven stands

Jacob Boheme (1575-1624)
German Protestant mystic and shoemaker

Winston Churchill (1874-1965)
Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

Optimism Defined:

A cheerful frame of mind that enables a tea
kettle to sing though in hot water up to its nose.

The time of business does not with me differ from the time of prayer;
and in the noise and clatter of the kitchen, while several persons are at
the same time calling for different things, I possess God in as great
tranquility as if I were upon my knees at the blessed sacrament.

Brother Lawrence (c. 1605-1691)
Lay brother and kitchen worker for Paris Carmelites

And now, the Last Word:

To love always and love all. To be able to say at
the end of each day: "I loved in every moment."

Founder of the Focolare Movement
A lay Catholic organization

Bonus quote:

His high endeavors are an inward light
That makes the path before him bright.
