new film:

Lord, in the quiet of this morning hour,
I come to Thee for peace, for wisdom, power,
To view the world today through love-filled eyes,
To patient be, understanding, gentle, wise:
To see beyond what seems to be, and know
Thy children as Thou knowest them. And so
Make deaf my ears to aught that is unkind
Let only thoughts that bless dwell in my mind.
Let me so kindly be so full of cheer
that all I meet may feel Thy presence near.
O, clothe me in Thy beauty, this I pray,
Let me reveal Thee, Lord, through all the day.

No one who lights a lamp conceals it with
a vessel or sets it under a bed; rather, he
places it on a lampstand so that those who
enter may see the light.

Luke 8: 16
New American Bible
We are as the flute, and the music in us is from thee;
we are as the mountain and the echo in us is from thee.

We are as pieces of chess engaged in victory and defeat:
our victory and defeat is from thee, O thou whose qualities
are comely!

Who are we, O Thou soul of our souls,
that we should remain in being beside thee?

We and our existences are really non-existence;
thou art the absolute Being which manifests the perishable.

We are all lions, but lions on a banner:
because of the wind they are rushing onward from moment
to moment.

Their onward rush is visible, and the wine is unseen:
may that which is unseen not fail from us!

Our wind whereby we are moved and our being are of thy
gift; our whole existence is from they bringing into being.

Rumi (1207-1273)
Persian Sufi poet and philosopher
Knowledge directs action by teaching us exactly what to do, showing us
which tools to use, and infusing our actions with enthusiasm and personal
relevance. Action contributes to knowledge by providing a touchstone, the
measure by which we judge the truth of an idea...
So knowledge is stronger when it is translated into action, and action is
stronger when it is suffused with knowledge. We can only achieve such
integration by recognizing that we were created by one G-d with one
purpose, which is to achieve this harmony between thought and deed,
between body and soul.
From "Toward a Meaningful Life: The Wisdom of the Rebbe Menachem Schneerson"
by Simon Jacobson, Perrenial Currents, 2002
The righteous will inherit the earth and
dwell forever upon it. The mouth of the
righteous man utter wisdom, and his
tongue speaks justice.

Psalm 37: 29-30
The Stone Edition Tanach
Mesorah Publications, 2005
Commit your way to the Lord; trust that God will act and make your
integrity shine like the dawn, your vindication like noonday.
Be still before the Lord; wait for God.

Psalm 37: 5-7
New American Bible
But this I say: He who sows sparingly will
also reap sparingly, and he who sows
bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let
each one give as he purposes in his heart,
not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves
a cheerful giver. And God is able to make
all grace abound toward you, that you,
always having all sufficiency in all things
may have an abundance for every good
work...Now may He who supplies seed to
the sower, and bread for food, supply and
multiply the seed you have sown and
increase the fruits of your righteousness.

2 Corinthians 9: 6-10
Holy Bible, New King James Version
The aim of life is to live and to live is to be aware,
joyously, drunkenly, serenely, divinely aware.

Henry Miller (1891-1980)
American writer
And now, the Last Word:

O most merciful redeemer, friend, and brother,
may we know Thee more clearly, love Thee more
and follow Thee more nearly, day by day.

    Richard of Chichester (1192-1253)
English Bishop of Chichester, canonized a saint in 1262
This portion of his prayer was adapted into the song "Day by Day" for the musical, 'Godspell.'
