Bonus quote: The quieter the mind, the more powerful, the
worthier, the deeper, the more telling and more perfect the
prayer is. To the quiet mind all things are possible.

Put on then, as God's chosen
ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt
compassion, kindness, humility,
gentleness, and patience,
bearing with one another and
forgiving one another, if one has
a  grievance against another; as
the Lord has forgiven you, so
must your also do. And over all
these put on love, that is, the
bond of perfection.

And let the peace of Christ
control your hearts, the peace
into which you were also called
in one body. And be thankful.

Colossians 3: 12-15
New American Bible
Gentleness can require that we forgo self-defense and embrace
vulnerability. But even more, gentleness sees through the falseness
of violence, brutality, indifference, and insensitivity. It is the act of
courage and persistence in the pursuit of love.

Wayne Teasdale
American lay monk, activist and teacher in building common ground between religions
Only the weak are cruel.
Gentleness can only be expected from the strong.

Leo Buscaglia (1924-1998)
American author and philosopher, advocate of the power of love
Nothing is so strong as
gentleness, nothing so
gentle as real strength.

St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622)
Bishop of Geneva
I have three things which I hold fast and prize. The first is
gentleness; the second is frugality; the third is humility,
which keeps me from putting myself before others. Be
gentle and you can be bold; be frugal and you can be
liberal; avoid putting yourself before others and you can
become a leader among men.

Lao Tzu (600 B.C - 531 B.C.)
Founder of Taoism

True gentleness is founded on a sense of what we owe to
him who made us and to the common nature which we all share.

Hugh Blair (1718-1800)
Scottish Presbyterian preacher and author
EDITORIAL

Sunday I wore one of my favorite necklaces to church. My husband bought
it for me in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It’s a wonderful example of Southwest
jewelry: A hammered silver cross with scalloped edges that’s two inches in
length. It's studded with amethysts, garnets and turquoise and possesses an
earthy elegance. Small wonder I consider it a unusual treasure. The husband
earned big points that day.

I can’t put it on without remembering “the story.” You see, my husband
chatted with the saleswoman in the shop as he selected the necklace.
Shaking her head, the woman related an incident that had happened a
few days earlier. It seems two teenage girls had come in to shop.
