Welcome To The Religion Network!

I'm Lisa Bowman, editor of The Religion Network, a multi-faith Web site. This site provides inspirational quotes through an
exploration of a new spiritual theme every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Religion network is offered with the
conviction that inspiration can be found in all spiritual faiths, and furthermore, that finding the commonalities
among the world's religions is more healing than pointing up their differences.

Religion as an institution is a precious gift, blessing individuals and uplifting communities. However you choose to
worship, I hope this site enhances your journey. If you'd like to know my story, click on biography.

Dear Readers,

"Intention" can be defined as performing something with a purposeful thought. When we inhale
deeply to relax and center ourselves, we are breathing with intention. When an action is under-
taken out of humble kindness, we are acting with intention. Acting with conscious intention
imbues those actions with power. And so it goes with prayer. Before entering into prayer, take
a moment to define in your heart a direction, be it towards a person or a desire of your own
spiritual growth. Then we can turn the prayerful intention into an intention for our entire day.
Suddenly, the day has richer meaning as well as the impetus to energize that meaning.
Ultimately, thoughtful intention makes your day glow with divine purpose.

- Lisa

Go forth in every direction --
for the happiness, the harmony,
the welfare of the many.
Offer your heart, the seeds of
your own understanding
like a lamp overturned
and relit again
illuminating the darkness.

The Buddha (563-483 BC)

Grandfather, Great Spirit, you have been always.
And before you nothing has been.
There is no one to pray to but you.
The star nations all over the heavens are yours,
And yours are the grasses of the earth.
Grandfather, Great Spirit, fill us with the light.
Teach us to walk the soft earth as relatives to all that live.
Help us, for without you we are nothing.

Black Elk (1863-1950)
Oglala Sioux Medicine Man

I am a cloud, I am the blue sky.
I am a bird spreading out its wings.
I am a flower, I am the sunshine,
I am the Earth receiving a seed.
And I am free when my heart is open.
Yes, I am free when my mind is clear.
Oh, dear brother, oh, dear sister,
let's walk together mindfully.

Buddhist meditation

...(P)rayer is a way of life which allows you to find a stillness
in the midst of the world where you open your hands to God's
promises, and find hope for yourself, your neighbor, and your
world. In prayer, you encounter God not only in the small voice
and the soft breeze, but also in the midst of the turmoil of
the world, in the distress and joy of your neighbor,
and in the loneliness of your own heart.

The Last Word :

O my Lord! In case I desire something which
is not in accordance with your pleasure,
please do place obstacles in the way of
fulfillment. Grant me instead only what
is in accordance with Thy Pleasure.

God does not work by only one method, paint in only one color;
play in only one key, nor does He make only one star shine onto the earth.
