Welcome To The Religion Network!

I'm Lisa Bowman, editor of The Religion Network, a multi-faith Web site. We provide inspirational
quotes by exploring a new theme every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This site is offered in the
conviction that inspiration can be found in all spiritual faiths, and furthermore, that finding the
commonalities among the world's religions is more healing than pointing up their differences.

Religion as an institution is precious gift, blessing individuals and uplifting communities.
However you choose to worship, I hope this site enhances your journey.

On Today's Theme:

About 10 feet from where I'm sitting, just through the French doors,
is the bird feeder. It's a source of never ending entertainment for me.
Hoards of feathered little ones feast and argue and chase throughout
sunlit hours here. The feeder isn't large. It's just a bowl-shaped flower
on the end of a stake that's stuck into the pot of a long-suffering rose-
bush. The birds fling seed everywhere on the balcony, so I have errant
grass growing in every single pot. Most of the time, the birds sit on the
rim of the feeder to eat. But right now, there's one sitting smack dab
in the middle of the seed pile, chowing down with her whole heart.

It delights me no end.

God delights when we're like that sweet little bird. He wants us to
plop down in the middle of His heart with all our heart and feast.
The proof is in the book of Psalms. Virtually every single psalm
contains the word "heart," and many use it more than once.

Relationship with the Divine takes place in the heart.

I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right
hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my
glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. For thou wilt
not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine
Holy One to see corruption.

Psalm 16:8-10
The Holy Bible
King James Version

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of
the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are
right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, en-
lightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever:
the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.

Psalm 19:7-9
KJV

But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself:
the Lord will hear when I call unto him. Stand in awe, and sin not:
commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.

Psalm 4:3-4
KJV

If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our
hands to a strange god; Shall not God search this out?
for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

Psalm 44:20-21
KJV

Create in me a clean heart, O God;
and renew a right spirit within me.

Psalm 51: 9-10

Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the
earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me
to the rock that is higher than I. For thou has been a shelter
for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

Psalm 61:1-3
KJV

Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know
my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.

Psalm 139:22-24

The Lord doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together
the outcasts of Israel. He healeth the broken in heart, and
bindeth up their wounds. He telleth the number of the
stars; he calleth them all by their names.

Psalm 147:2-4
KJV

_________

O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory.

Psalm 108:1

...and now,
The Last Word:

Thou hast put gladness in my heart,
more than in the time that their corn and
their wheat increased. I will both lay me
down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord,
only makest me dwell in safety.

Psalm 4: 7-8
