Welcome To The Religion Network!

I'm Lisa Bowman, editor of The Religion Network, a multi-faith Web site. This site provides inspirational quotes through an
exploration of a new spiritual theme every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Religion network is offered with the
conviction that inspiration can be found in all spiritual faiths, and furthermore, that finding the commonalities
among the world's religions is more healing than pointing up their differences.

Religion as an institution is a precious gift, blessing individuals and uplifting communities. However you choose to
worship, I hope this site enhances your journey. If you'd like to know my story, click on biography.

Dear Readers,

Restful sleep is becoming more and more elusive in today's society. We move too
fast, jam too much into one day, and because news now travels globally in an instant,
we now feel concern about cultures and peoples worldwide. By the time we turn out
the lights at night, our brains are often a jumble of images and on an overload of too
much information. Lately, I've taken to writing out my worries on a Post-it, folding it
and placing it inside my Bible as an act of relinquishing my cares to the Lord. it works.

Two of my favorite quotes are on today's Home Page. One is by Victor Hugo and
the is by Dag Hammarskjold. Both ease the heart and lighten the burden.

- Lisa

Now I will sleep beneath your feet, beneath your hands,
O lord of the mountains and valleys,
O lord of the trees, O lord of the creeping vines.
Again tomorrow there will be day,
again tomorrow there will be light.
I know not where I will be.

Who is my mother? Who is my father?
Only you, O God.
You watch me, guard me, on every path,
through every darkness,
and before each obstacle that you might hide
or take away, O God, my lord,
O lord of the mountains and valleys.

Kekchi Mayan prayer
Mayans originally from Guatemala,
who immigrated to Belize in the late 1800's

As my head rests on my pillow
Let my soul rest on your mercy.

As my limbs relax on my mattress,
Let my soul relax in your peace.

As my body finds warmth beneath the blankets,
Let my soul find warmth in your love.

As my mind is filled with dreams,
Let my soul be filled with visions of heaven.

Johann Freylinghausen (1670-1739)
German Lutheran pastor and hymnodist

If I have wounded any soul today,
If I have caused one foot to go astray,
If I have walked in my own willful way,
Dear Lord, forgive!

If I have uttered idle words or vain,
If I have turned aside from want or pain,
Lest I offend some other thru' the strain,
Dear Lord, forgive!

If I have been perverse, or hard or cold,
If I have longed for shelter in Thy fold
When Thou hast given me some fort to hold,
Dear Lord, forgive!

Forgive the sins I have confessed to Thee;
Forgive the secret sins I do not see;
O guide me, love me, and my keeper be,

"An Evening Prayer,"
Hymn by C. M. Battersby & Chas. H. Gabriel

Have courage for the great sorrows of life
and patience for the small ones. And when
you have finished your daily task, go to
sleep in peace. God is awake.

Victor Hugo (1802-1885)
French poet, playwright, statesman

The Last Word :

Night is drawing nigh.
For all that has been --
For all that shall be--

Dag Hammarskjold (1905-1961)
