A beloved rabbi, when he was yet a young child,
was playing with a group of other children who
were climbing a ladder. All his friends were afraid
to climb to the top, but he had no fear. Later, his
grandfather asked him, "Why were you not afraid
to climb and the others were?"

"Because as they climbed, they kept looking down,"
he replied. "They saw how high they were, and they
were frightened. As I climbed, I kept looking upward.
I saw how low I was, and it motivated me to climb higher."

Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson,"

Let your love flow outward through the universe,
To its height, its depth, its broad extent,
A limitless love, without hatred or enmity.
Then as you stand or walk,
Sit or lie down,
As long as you are awake,
Strive for this with a one-pointed mind;
Your life will bring heaven on earth.

The Buddha (c. 563 BC-483 BC)

Every drop of the ocean contains salt but it is invisible.
Similarly the Omnipresent Lord permeates and pervades
the entire creation but is invisible.

Shanti Vachan Bhandar
Hindu scriptures

We ruin our life of prayer if we are constantly
examining out prayer and seeking the fruit of
prayer in a peace that is nothing more than a
psychological process. The only thing to seek
in contemplative prayer is God; and we seek
him successfully when we realize that we cannot
find him unless he shows himself to us, and yet
at the same time he would not have inspired us
to seek him unless we had already found him.

(Jesus) didn't teach the disciples until they asked.
He waits for us to ask.  He doesn't make us pray,
he makes us want to pray.

Lutheran Pastor, evangelist with Billy Graham

I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me,
O God; incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.
Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest
by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those
that rise up against them. Keep me as the apple of the eye,
hide me under the shadow of thy wings...

Psalm 17: 6-8
The Holy Bible
King James Version

My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.
Psalm 63:8

We pursue God because, and only because, He has first put an urge
within us that spurs us to the pursuit. 'No man can come to me,'
said our Lord, 'except the Father which hath sent me draw him,'
and it is by this very prevenient drawing that God takes from us
every vestige of credit for the act of coming. The impulse to pursue
God originates with God, but the outworking of that impulse is our
following hard after Him; and all the time we are pursuing Him we
are already in His hand: 'Thy right hand upholdeth me.' In this divine
'upholding' and human 'following' there is no contradiction ... In the
warm language of personal feeling this is stated in the Forty-second
Psalm: `As the hart panteth after the waterbrooks, so panteth my
soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God:
when shall I come and appear before God?' This is deep calling unto
deep, and the longing heart will understand it.

A. W. Tozier (1897-1963)
Pastor, author, editor

God says to man, "My son, I have all confidence in you
because you are of Me."
Man says to God, "Father, I have full confidence in my-
self because You are for me."

God says to man, "My son, I have all confidence in you
because you want the Truth and the Truth alone."
Man says to God, "Father, I have full confidence in my-
self because I know that You are not only the Truth but
You are also my Truth."

God says to man, "My son, I have all confidence in you
because of our present divine conversation."
Man says to God, "Father, Father, Father, I have full
confidence in myself because of Your present and
eternal Compassion for me."

Sri Chinmoy (1931)
Indian philosopher and guru
From a speech given in August, 1970
in the Peace Room of the

And now, the Last Word:

I cannot choose the best.
The best chooses me.
