Once we recognize G-d as the absolute reality, we must
question human existence. We know now that we exist
(because G-d told us so) but we also know that there is
nothing to say we must exist. G-d's universe would hardly
cease to be if any one of us had not been born. Indeed,
G-d's absolute reality would not be affected in any way
if our entire existence had never occurred.

Our creation, therefore, is G-d's way of choosing each
of us to exist. None of us is here by accident; we are
here because G-d wants us to exist. But why? ...

The answer to (this question) lies in understanding
the mysterious and complex process by which G-d
created human existence. G-d, who is Himself undefin-
able and indescribable, chose to create man and place
him in a physical world that is both definable and
describable. He also chose to manifest Himself in this
world through the laws of logic that He created, through
the awesome design of nature and of each human being,
and through divine providence. We are allowed to
experience these divine attributes so that we can begin
to comprehend G-d and have a personal relationship
with Him. ... G-d wants us to unite with Him...

From "Toward a Meaningful Life: The Wisdom of the
Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson," by Simon Jacobson
Perennial Currents, 2002

The Lord wants us to escape this delusive world.
He cries for us, for He knows how hard it is for
us to gain His deliverance. But you have only
to remember that you are His child. Don't pity
yourself. You are loved just as much by God as
are Jesus and Krishna. you must seek His love,
for it encompasses eternal freedom,
endless joy, and immortality.

Paramahansa Yogananda (1893-1952)
Indian guru; founder of the Self-Realization Fellowship

__________

...God is not progressing or improving. What
improves is our understanding of Him, and as
this happens all our conditions necessarily
improve too. There never was a time in your
history when God was not all that he is today,
and there never can come a time when God will
be any more than He is today.

God is continually expressing Himself in new
ways -- but this is not improvement; it is
unfoldment, and that is the only reason for
your existing at all. you are the living
expression of God now -- and to understand
this is salvation.

From "Around the Year with Emmet Fox,"
HarperSanFrancisco, 1998

For thus says the Lord God:
Behold, I, I myself will search for my sheep,
and will seek them out. As a shepherd seeks
out his flock when some of his sheep have
been scattered abroad, so will I seek out my
sheep; and I will rescue them from all places
where they have been scattered on a day of
clouds and thick darkness.

I will feed them with good pasture, and upon
the mountain heights of Israel shall be their
pasture; there they shall lie down in good
grazing land, and on fat pasture they shall
feed on the mountains of Israel. I myself
will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I
will make them lie down,
says the Lord God.

Ezekiel 34: 11-12, 14-15
