Dear Readers,

What makes one blessed is not a large income, a robust life
or even having a great family and friends. Don't misunder-
stand - these are often gracious gifts from He who is the
Universe. But we are truly blessed, now and forever, once
we know we are tightly embraced by our Beloved One
regardless of any external circumstances. Then the
journey itself becomes prayer and joy.

You, O Loving Presence,
have been my strength,
You have stood beside me
in the darkness,
You have walked with me
into the light!"

...Blessed are all who enter through
your gates!
Blessed are all who dwell in
the house of Love!
For you lead the Way, You forgive
our misguided ways, and
You bring Light into darkness.
Come, all you who will, partake of
the Great Banquet!

You are my Beloved, and I will
give thanks to You;
You are my Beloved, greatly
will I praise You!

From "Psalms for Praying,"
by Nan C. Merrill
continuum, 2009
Based on Psalm 118

_________

We can awaken to to basic goodness, our birthright.
When we are able to do this, we no longer feel burdened
by depression, worry, or resentment. Life feels spacious,
like the sky and the sea. There's room to relax and swim,
to swim so far out that we no longer have the reference
point off the shore...

Everything that occurs is not only usable and workable
but is actually the path itself. We can use everything
that happens to us as the means for waking up...

From "When Things Fall Apart,"
by Pema Chodron
Shambala, 2005

Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.
As they pass through the Valley of Baka,
   they make it a place of springs;
the autumn rains also cover it with pools.

Psalm 84:5-6
The Holy Bible
New International Version

"But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
   whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
   its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit."

Jeremiah 17:7-8
The Holy Bible
New International Version

Sometimes we forget the blessing of silence.

Sometimes the wind is poem enough,

the way a mountain hunches, the play

of the sun across ocean in the space of a day.

Sometimes moss is a stanza, the orange of lichen

will stand in for a sonnet on a day like that.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Matthew 5:3, 6
New American Bible

The Last Word:

When I think of God, my heart is so filled
with joy that the notes fly off as from a spindle.

Joseph Haydn (1732-1809)
Austrian composer; friend of Mozart, teacher of Beethoven
