Welcome To The Religion Network!

I'm Lisa Bowman, editor of The Religion Network, a multi-faith Web site. We provide inspirational
quotes by exploring a new theme every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This site is offered in the
conviction that inspiration can be found in all spiritual faiths, and furthermore, that finding the
commonalities among the world's religions is more healing than pointing up their differences.

Religion as an institution is precious gift, blessing individuals and uplifting communities.
However you choose to worship, I hope this site enhances your journey.
If you'd like to know my story, click on biography.

On Today's Theme:

When you love someone you want to do great things for them.
You are willing to deny yourself in order to give to them.
Those who love the Lord yearn to give back to Him.
No sweeter sacrifice exists than the giving of our hearts.

- Lisa Bowman

On a day of your gladness, and on your festivals, and on your new moon,
you shall sound the trumpets over your burnt-offerings and over your
feast peace-offerings; and they shall be a remembrance for you before
your God; I am Hashem, your God.

Numbers 10: 10
The Stone Edition Tanach
Mesorah Publications, 1996

This is how Rabbi Mordecai of Neskhizh expounded the words
in the Scriptures: "And in your new moons ye shall present a
burnt-offering unto the Lord."

If you want to renew your doing, offer up to God the first
thought you have on awaking. God will help him who
accomplishes this, to be bonded to Him the whole
day, and to bind everything to that first thought.

God says: "To the devotional call of that child
of Mine who struggles, prays, and meditates
in order to know Me in body, mind, and soul
as the all-pervading, ever-new Joy---as the
ever-increasing Bliss of meditation---I
silently and deeply respond."

Paramahansa Yogananda (1893-1952)
Indian yogi and guru

Sac
rifice has formed the core of religion from the very beginning.
Humanity has always had the idea that our relation to God centered
around sacrifice. In the beginning these were bloody sacrifices. But
as we evolved, the sacrifice became more and more spiritual...So
as our spiritual insight develops, sacrifice moves from external
offerings, whether bloody or not, to an interior moral sacrifice -
the pure heart.

Excerpted from "Prayer,"
by Richard Chilson
Sorin Books, 2006

True compassion flows fast, as if we were wounded
ourselves, yet without diminishing our strength.
