Dear Readers,

Not to outdo Forrest Gump, but "Life is like a drive-through car wash."

This bit of deep wisdom came to me the other day as rainbow suds
flowed down the sides of my car. Our seven-year-old mutt, CJ, buried
her head into my stomach, terrified that those big, mean brushes
glancing past the windows were going to attack her. I did everything I
could think of to comfort her. I showed her the bright outside just a
few feet in front of us. I promised that we'd be driving into it in just a
few minutes and that in the meantime, nothing would harm her. I told
her that no matter how scary this situation looked, everything was
perfectly fine. And then I wondered if God wasn't saying the exact
same thing to me about life. Weren't there times when I didn't be-
lieve Him any more than poor little CJ believed me at that moment?
So I just held her close, like God holds us close when we're scared.

That's when I decided that I need more "car wash courage" in my life.

Sharing your honest thoughts with God invites Him to enter your
heart and scatter dark emotions with His brilliant, holy Light.
So don't be afraid to open up when you pray or meditate.
Wisdom tells us that challenges aren't going away, but if we
let the Divine in on them, we are lifted beyond our fear.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and
though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though
the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.

Psalm 46:1-3
The Holy Bible
King James Version

On that day that I fear, I trust in You.
In God -- I will praise His word --
in God I have trusted, I shall not fear;
what can mortal flesh do to me?

Psalm 56: 4-5
The Stone Edition Tanach
Mesorah Publications

Out of my distress I called on the Lord,
the Lord answered me and set me free.
With the Lord on my side I do not fear.
What can man do to me?

Psalm 118: 5-6
The Holy Bible
Revised Standard Version

I gathered you from one end of the earth to the other.
From the farthest places on earth I brought you together.
I said, 'You are my servants.' I have chosen you.
I have not turned my back on you. So do not be afraid.
I am with you. Do not be terrified. I am your God.
I will make you strong and help you.
My powerful right hand will take good care of you.
I always do what's right.

Isaiah 41: 10
The Holy Bible
New International Reader's Version.

Fearlessness means faith in God:
faith in His protection,
His justice, His wisdom, His mercy,
His love, and His omnipotence
...To be fit for Self-realization a man must be fearless.

Paramahansa Yogananda (1893-1952)
Hindu guru and yogi

Let nothing trouble you.

Let nothing scare you.

All is fleeting.

God alone is unchanging.

Everything obtains.

Who possesses God,

Nothing wants.

God alone suffices.

St. Teresa of Avila (1515-1582)
Spanish mystic, Carmelite nun, Doctor of the Church
From "The Collected Works of St. Teresa of Avila," Volume Three
Translated by Kieran Kavanaugh and Otilio Rodriguez

The Last Word:

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;
but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

2 Timothy 1: 7
The Holy Bible
King James Version

Utterly Random Bonus Quote:

The superior man is quiet and calm, waiting for the appointments
of heaven, while the mean man walks in dangerous paths,
looking for lucky occurrences.
