Welcome To The Religion Network!
I'm Lisa Bowman. The Religion Network is an interfaith web site providing inspiration, quotes and religious resources. This Home Page is changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You are warmly
invited to read every quote posted for each theme, or simply to read those that interest you. They are
offered in the belief that inspiration can be found in all spiritual faiths, and that finding the commonality
in religions is more important than pointing up the differences. Religion is precious gift that blesses the
individual and uplifts the community. However you worship, I hope this site enhances your journey. Let
us meet regularly and build a spiritual network. If you'd like to know my story, click on biography.

God has given to the earth the breath which feeds it.
It is his breath that gives life to all things. And if he
were to withhold his breath, everything would be
annihilated. His breath vibrates in yours, in your
voice. It is the breath of God that you breathe --
and you are unaware of it.

Theophilus of Antioch (died between 183-185)
Early Christian theologian

By the word of Hashem the heavens were made,
and by the breath of His mouth all their host.

Psalm 33: 6
The Stone Edition Tanach

For the spirit of God has made me,
the breath of the Almighty keeps me alive.

Job 33: 4
New American Bible

The soul that is united and transformed in God breathes
God in God with the same divine breathing with which
God, while in her, breathes her in himself.

St. John of the Cross (1542-1591)
Spanish mystic, major figure in the Catholic Reformation

That Sunday evening the disciples were meeting behind locked
doors because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Suddenly,
Jesus was standing there among them! "Peace be with you,"
he said. As he spoke, he showed them the wounds in his hands
and his side. They were filled with joy when they saw the Lord!
Then he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit."

John 20: 19-22
The Holy Bible
New Living Translation

Thus says God the Lord,
Who created the heavens and stretched them out,
Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it,
Who gives breath to the people on it,
And spirit to those who walk on it:
"I, the Lord, have called You in righteousness,
And will hold Your hand;
I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people,
As a light to the Gentiles..."

Isaiah 42: 5-6
The Holy Bible
New King James Version

Heaven, blow through me.
Lift me past the edges of my life.
Cast me in a clearer light.
Scoop me up trembling, spent.
Certain I have nothing left to give.
Give me comfort, solace,
Blood flowing through my heart.
that I breathe Your breath at last.

And now, the Last Word:

God is breath.

Maximus the Confessor (c. 580-662)
Christian monk, theologian and scholar

Bonus quote:

One angel said to another: "The world is a mask God hides behind."
"He puts it on so that no one will fear infinity," the other angel agreed.
