Welcome To The Religion Network!
I'm Lisa Bowman, editor of The Religion Network, a multi-faith Web site. This site provides inspirational quotes through an
exploration of a new spiritual theme every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Religion network is offered with the
conviction that inspiration can be found in all spiritual faiths, and furthermore, that finding the commonalities
among the world's religions is more healing than pointing up their differences.

Religion as an institution is a precious gift, blessing individuals and uplifting communities. However you choose to
worship, I hope this site enhances your journey. If you'd like to know my story, click on biography.

"The Calling of Samuel"          Sir Joshua Reynolds

Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord under Eli. And the word
of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no frequent vision. At that
time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim, so that he could not see,
was lying down in his own place; the lamp of God had not yet gone out,
and Samuel was lying down within the temple of the Lord, where the ark
of God was. Then the Lord called, "Samuel! Samuel!" and he said "Here
I am!" and ran to Eli, and said "Here I am, for you called me." But he said,
"I did not call; lie down again." So he went and lay down. And the Lord
called again, "Samuel!" and Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said,
"Here I am, for you called me." But he said, "I did not call, my son; lie
down again." Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of
the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. And the Lord called Samuel
again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, "Here I am,
for you called me." Then Eli perceived that the Lord was calling the boy.
Therefore Eli said to Samuel, "Go, lie down; and if he calls you, you shall
say, 'Speak, Lord, for thy servant hears.'" So Samuel went and lay down
in his place. And the Lord came and stood forth, calling as at other time,
"Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel said, "Speak, for thy servant hears."

________

Here I am, Lord.
Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord,
if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.

____________

...the voice teaches us that not only were we chosen,
but we were chosen for the Lord by the Lord. His choosing
us was not simply for an assignment in the kingdom, but we
were chosen for Him. We are His treasure. Malachi 3:17 states
that when God comes to make up His jewels, we shall be His.
We are not just participants in the work of the Kingdom,
we are the treasure of God and for God.

For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the
likeness of His Son, that he might be the firstborn among many
brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called,
he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. What then shall
we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Romans 8: 29-31

New International Version

_______

He chose you to be His beloved child before He even created
the heavens and the earth. You are not an accident, a mistake,
or an error. You were in Almighty God's heart and mind and plan
for the universe long before the earth ever heard your first cry.
Don't ever let anybody tell you and don't ever think
or say that you are unloved or unwanted again!

_________

Verse:
Come! Live in the light!
Shine with the joy and the love of the Lord!
We are called to be light for the kingdom,
to live in the freedom of the city of God!

Refrain:
We are called to act with justice,
we are called to love tenderly,
we are called to serve one another,
to walk humbly with God.

The Last Word:

When He called you,
He wanted you.
When He chose you,
He wanted you.
You are His treasure
and His delight!
