Bonus quote: The quieter the mind, the more powerful, the
worthier, the deeper, the more telling and more perfect the
prayer is. To the quiet mind all things are possible.

My friend, you thought you lost Him;
that all your life you've been separated from Him.
Filled with wonder, you've always looked outside for Him,
and haven't searched within your own house.

The funny part is
that in this search,
Beauty has always accompanied you.
Where ever you have been,
He is the One holding your hand.

Rumi (13th century)
Persian poet and theologian
"The Funny Part Is"
Helminski, Kabir (2000)

The following is from Kathy Ganino, a reader and contributor to The Religion Network.
It was written in response to last week's Home Page, "The Power of a Smile."
What amazes me about the smile is that we are the ONLY creatures of God who CAN smile.
Which makes sense to me why we have an immortal soul because the smile, to me, is the
way I try to portray the light of Christ from this soul of mine.  When I smile and my face
creases up, it usually is because I am looking at another soul God has put before me.  I look
at the face and see beauty, serenity, character, wisdom, wit, or grace, and suddenly I feel
happy.  So I smile.  We are also the only creatures who can smile while crying at the same
time.  A smile is such a necessary part of being totally human.  Thank you for your grace.

He Himself is the fuel our spirits were designed to burn, or the
food our spirits were designed to feed on.  There is no other.

-C.S. Lewis (1898-1963)
Author of "The Chronicles of Narnia"

Every drop of the ocean contains salt but it is invisible.
Similarly the Omnipresent Lord permeates and pervades
the entire creation but is invisible.

The power of spiritual forces in the Universe - how active it is everywhere!
Invisible to the eyes, and impalpable to the senses, it is inherent in all things,
and nothing can escape its operation.

Confucius (551-479 B.C.)
Chinese thinker and social philosopher
Not only the pirouettes of a leaf as
it falls off a tree, the quivering of a
blade of grass in the wind, each and
every detail of existence brought
into being, given life and directed
every moment from Above

-but beyond that:
Every nuance is an essential
component of a grand and G-dly
scheme, the gestalt of all those
vital minutiae.

Every moment burns with the pulse
of G-d’s desire.

Meditate on this. And then think:
How much more so the details of my
daily life.

Rebbe Mendel Menachem Schneerson (1902-1994)
Seventh Rebbe of the Chabad/Lubavitch branch of
Chassidic Judaism

God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself,
because it is not there. There is no such thing.

C. S. Lewis
