The comment rocked me back on my heels. I was talking to my friend, Rich.
I'd just put myself down. It's a bad tendency of mine. Now, though, Rich had
thrown a curve ball that brushed me back from the plate."You know,"
he'd remarked, "one of the ways the devil messes with you is by
keeping you uncomfortable with yourself."
Whoa. Of course. If we don't like ourselves, don't remember that we are
spiritual creatures who are adored by our Creator, we are rendered fallen
humans again and again. We stand accused and condemned by ourselves.
Humility, good. Self-deprecation, bad. I guess if we're good enough for God,
we should probably not put ourselves down. God does have good taste,
after all. So who do we want to agree with, God or a fallen angel?

Do we think too much of ourselves--or too little?
We may have tendencies towards one end of the
spectrum or the other. Or we may go back and forth
between the two extremes, convinced of our import-
tance one day and our insignificance the next.
We all have a place in the world that
is significant; we all matter...

I praise you because I am fearfully
and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the
depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
