These are the things you shall do:
Speak each man the truth to his neighbor;
Give judgment in your gates for truth, justice, and peace;
Let none of you think evil in your heart against your neighbor;
And do not love a false oath.
For all these are things that I hate, says the Lord.

Zechariah 8: 16-17
New King James Bible

_______

You shall not kill; you shall not commit adultery;
you shall not steal; you shall not bear false
witness against your fellow.

You shall not covet your fellow's house. You shall
not covet your fellow's wife, his manservant, his
maidservant, his ox, his donkey, nor anything
that belongs to your fellow.

Exodus 20: 13-14
The Stone Edition Tanach

________

Human action has not woven the web of life: we are but a thread in it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things
are bound together. All things connect.

Chief Seattle (c. 1786-1866)
Suquamish Nation

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying,
"Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"
He said to him, "What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?"
So he answered and said, "You shall love the Lord your God with
all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with
all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself."
And He said to him, "You have answered rightly;
do this and you will live."

Luke 10: 25-28
New King James Bible

____________

What is hateful to you do not unto others.
That is the entire law.
The rest is explanation.
Go and learn.

Rabbi Hillel (1st century, BC)
Associated with development of Mishnah and Talmud

_________

The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery;
you shall not kill; you shall not steal; you shall not
covet," and whatever other commandment there
may be, are summed up in this saying, namely,
"You shall love your neighbor as
yourself."
Love does no evil to the neighbor;
hence, love is the fulfillment
of the law.

Romans 13: 9-10
New American Bible

I think everybody longs to be loved and longs to know that he or she
is lovable and, consequently, the greatest thing that we can to is to
help somebody know that they are loved and capable of loving.

Fred Rogers, aka "Mr. Rogers" (1928-2003)
American television host and producer

__________

Try to treat with equal love all the people with whom you have
relations. Thus the abyss between 'myself' and 'yourself'
will be filled in, which is the goal of all religious worship.

Sri Anandamayi Ma (1896-1982)
Bengali Guru, saint and mystic

________

When you say, "May all beings be happy," if there is no
clear or concrete subject, your wish may be too vague.
It is easier to focus on one person and say, "May he and
all those like him be safe and free from injury." Then
your love will take hold in a real way. Love meditation
is not wishful thinking. It is an authentic practice.
Looking deeply, you radiate the energy of mind-
fulness onto the object of your meditation and
illuminate it. True seeing always gives rise
to true love.

Orbis Books, 2004

And now, the Last Word:

At the center of the universe is a
loving heart that continues to beat
and that wants the best for every
person. Anything we can do to help
foster the intellect and spirit and emo-
tional growth of our fellow human
beings, that is our job.

Those of us who have this particular
vision must continue against all
odds. Life is for service.

Fred Rogers (1928-2003)
"Mr. Rogers"
