Today's theme: The Prayerful Heart

The Desert Fathers in their sayings point us towards a very holistic view of
prayer. They pull us away from our intellectualizing practices, in which God
becomes one of the many problems we have to address. They show us that
real prayer penetrates to the marrow of our soul and leaves nothing untouched...

Thus the prayer of the heart is the prayer of truth. It unmasks the many illusions
about ourselves and about God and leads us into the true relationship of the
    sinner to the merciful God...

Thus the words of Jesus, "Happy the pure in heart: they shall see God"
(Matt. 5:8) will become real in our prayer. Temptations and struggles will
remain to the end of our lives, but with a pure heart we will be restful even
in the midst of a restless existence.

And now, the Last Word:

        Let Me Be A Light

Let me be a light, O God,
    That shines for all to see;
If someone needs to find the way,
    An example may I be
Of love and kindness and brotherhood,
Of all that's gentle, of all that's good.

Keep your feet on the earth but lift your

face towards the heavens, for the Light

which floods into you from on high will

steady your feet and guide them in the

right path. Have confidence in this divine

Light. Surrender with a tranquil mind and

a heart full of love to this infinite Wisdom.

A workman had taken a break and was reading a book of psalms
when his employer approached him. "Why are you reading all of
a sudden, right in the middle of work?" he asked.

It doesn't seem to bother anyone that in the middle of praying,
I can think about work," the man replied. "Why is it that, in the
middle of work, I can't think for a minute about prayer?"
