Welcome To The Religion Network!
I'm Lisa Bowman. The Religion Network is an interfaith web site providing inspiration, quotes and
religious resources. This Home Page is changed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You are
warmly invited to read every quote posted for each theme, or simply to read those that interest
you. They are offered in the belief that inspiration can be found in all spiritual faiths, and that
finding the commonality in religions is more important than pointing up the differences.
Religion is precious gift that blesses the individual and uplifts the community. However you
worship, I hope this site enhances your journey. Let us meet regularly and build a spiritual
network. If you'd like to know my story, click on biography.

Let us break bread together on our knees;
Let us break bread together on our knees;
When I fall on my knees
With my face to the rising sun,
O Lord, have mercy on me.

Let us drink the cup together on our knees;
Let us drink the cup together on our knees;
When I fall on my knees
With my face to the rising sun,
O Lord, have mercy on me.

Let us praise God together on our knees;
Let us praise God together on our knees;
When I fall on my knees
With my face to the rising sun,
O Lord, have mercy on me.

Traditional Spiritual

Some say that this spiritual was the password used to call slaves to
secret, forbidden worship meetings in Virginia. Whether true or not,
the song calls Christians to gather and celebrate the Lord's Supper.

The posture is significant. Some churches have participants kneel to
take the elements of Communion, other have them sit or stand. What-
ever posture the body takes, the attitude of the heart is worship. We
come in reverence before our Lord.

"The rising sun" could refer to an ancient custom of worshipping toward
the east. Most cathedrals are built with the nave facing east. The rising
sun has often been a symbol for God. It brings new life and light,
a source of energy and hope...

The purpose of every human being is to serve his Creator,
and that is a service of great joy:

"I, puny and decidedly finite being, serve with my deeds the
Infinite Creator of All Worlds! I am bound to the Source of
Life from birth, and all the many raging waters of this world
cannot tear me away from that bond. Even if I sometimes fail, I
may always return and in a single moment reconnect all my soul.

Come! Let us sing to Hashem, let us call out to the Rock
of our salvation. Let us greet Him with thanksgiving, with
praiseful songs let us call out to Him. For a great God is
Hashem, and a great King above all heavenly powers. For
in His power are the hidden mysteries of earth, and the
mountain summits are His. His is the sea and He per-
fected it, and the dry land - His hands fashioned it. Come!
Let us prostrate ourselves and bow, let us kneel before
Hashem, our Maker. For He is our God and we can be
the flock He pastures, and the sheep in His charge -
even today, if we but heed His call!

There are many churchgoers but few
worshippers, because there are
few pray-ers.

In prayer we learn to hear Him speak first,
and then we speak; He works, and then
we work. All proceeds from Him; words
and works - and, in worship.

Quotes from "The Seven Wonders of Prayer,"
by Armin Gesswein (1907-2001)
Lutheran pastor and evangelist associated with Billy Graham

And now, the Last Word:

I bear witness, O my God, that Thou hast
created me to know Thee and to worship
Thee. I testify, at this moment, to my
powerlessness and to Thy might,
to my poverty and to Thy wealth.

There is none other God but Thee,
the Help in Peril,
the Self-Subsisting.

Baha'u'llah (1817-1892)
Founder of Baha'i faith

Bonus quote:

The heart of a fool is in his mouth,
but the mouth of a wise man is in his heart.

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)
Printer, publisher, author, inventor, scientist and diplomat
and did I mention philosopher and American founding father?
