Welcome To The Religion Network!
I'm Lisa Bowman, editor of The Religion Network, a multi-faith Web site. This site provides inspirational quotes through an
exploration of a new spiritual theme every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The Religion network is offered with the
conviction that inspiration can be found in all spiritual faiths, and furthermore, that finding the commonalities
among the world's religions is more healing than pointing up their differences.
Religion as an institution is a precious gift, blessing individuals and uplifting communities. However you choose to
worship, I hope this site enhances your journey. If you'd like to know my story, click on biography.
I have to wonder if angels are as intrigued with us as we are with them. Their ethereal presence
seems at once electric and calming. From the scriptures of virtually every religion, we know
angels can make themselves visible occasionally here on earth. Most of the time, though,
it seems that they whisper to us; nudge us; and guard us, as the 91st Psalm reassures us.
I've had several instances where I'm convinced my guardian angel did more than just nudge -
once my angel even yelled quite loudly in my ear, saving me from a serious car accident.
Apparently, I had ignored the whispers until shouting became necessary!
If you have an angelic encounter you'd like to share, I'd be interested in reading about it.
It's always polite to say "thank you" to our heavenly guardians.
Archangel Weighing Souls (circa 1350)
I raised my eyes and saw, behold! one man* clothed in linen, his loins
girded with fine gold. His body was like tashish,** his face like the
appearance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, and his arms
and legs like the color of burnished copper; the sound of his words
(loud) as the sound of a multitude. I, Daniel, alone saw this great
vision, the people who were with me did not see the vision,
great fear fell upon them and they fled into hiding.
So I remained alone. I saw this great vision. No strength remained in
me; my robustness changed to pallor, and I could retain no strength.
I heard the remarkable sound of his words, and when I heard the
sound of his words I was in a deep sleep upon my face, with my face
towards the ground. Behold! a hand touched me and moved me onto
my knees and the palms of hands.
He said to me, "Daniel, greatly beloved man, understand the words that
I speak to you, and stand in your place, for I have been sent to you
now." As he spoke these words to me, I stood atremble. He said to
me, "Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart
to understand and to fast before your God, your words have been
heard; and I have come because of your words..."
*Most commentators believe the "man" was the Archangel Gabriel.

The name Gabriel means: "God is my strength." He is known
in Christianity, Judaism and Islam as God's unique messenger
to man. The Sufi poet Ruzbehan Baqli wrote that Gabriel is
"like the moon amongst the stars."
For God commands the angels to guard you in all your ways.
New American Bible
"Guardian Angel" by Elvira Amrhein
Angels who are close to the presence of the Lord are often called
"Angels of the Face" or "Angels of the Presence." Angels in this
category include Michael and Uriel, both archangels along
with Gabriel and Raphael (Healer of God).
For every angel whose ministry is on earth,
a million angels praise God is heaven.
Our angels cradle our every prayer in their hands,
laying it confidently before the throne of God.
Angels watch over every cell in our bodies, every beat
of our hearts. They take note of everything we do.
Three excerpts from "The Angels' Little Instruction Book,"
by Eileen Elias Freeman
Warner Books, 1994
The Last Word :
May the angel Michael be at your right,
and the angel Gabriel at your left.
And in front of you the angel Uriel,
and behind you the angel Raphael,
and above you the divine presence of God.
Random Bonus Quote:
God dances when we sing.
